FTC Slaps Down Sendit For… Seriously?!
Oh, for the love of all that is holy. Another one. The FTC is suing this app called “Sendit” – yeah, real original name – because they were hoovering up data from kids like it was going out of style. Apparently, letting children use an app without parental consent and then selling their info to advertisers is… illegal? Who knew.
They weren’t even bothering with COPPA compliance, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. Just straight-up collecting names, emails, phone numbers, *and* location data. Location data! From kids! What could possibly go wrong?
The FTC is demanding they cough up any illegally obtained data and stop their shady practices. They’re also looking for a hefty financial penalty, which frankly isn’t enough considering the potential damage done. A slap on the wrist for these clowns.
And to top it all off? Sendit claimed they didn’t *know* kids were using the app. Right. Sure. Like that’s believable. Just a bunch of willfully ignorant morons, probably.
Honestly, I’m starting to think half these companies are just testing how much they can get away with before someone notices. It’s infuriating.

Reminds me of this time a company tried to tell me they “accidentally” sent a database full of user passwords in plain text. Accidentally? Yeah, right. Some people just don’t deserve access to computers, let alone other peoples data. It’s always the same story: greed, incompetence, and then pretending it was all a big misunderstanding.
