Android malware uses VNC to give attackers hands-on access

Ugh, Another Android Mess

Seriously? VNC on Android. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Right, so some morons have managed to shove VNC (Virtual Network Computing – for the utterly clueless, it’s remote control software) into an Android dropper. A dropper, people! Like we don’t have enough crapware already. This thing pretends to be a legitimate app, gets you to install it, and then BAM! Full remote access for some loser halfway across the world.

They’re using this to steal banking credentials, mess with your SMS messages (because apparently two-factor authentication is just a suggestion), and generally wreak havoc. It’s not even particularly sophisticated – they’re abusing Accessibility Services, which frankly, anyone with half a brain shouldn’t be granting random apps anyway. It’s all about tricking you into giving them permissions. Permissions! Like handing your keys to a stranger.

The worst part? It targets Korean users *primarily*, but don’t think you’re safe if you aren’t in Korea, because malware doesn’t have geographical restrictions. It’s spreading through side-loaded APKs – meaning people are willingly installing garbage from untrusted sources. Honestly, what did they expect?

The researchers at ThreatFabric found it and are warning everyone. Good for them. But let’s be real: this is basic stuff. Basic! And people *still* fall for it. I swear, users are the weakest link, and they’re actively trying to break the chain.

So, update your security software (if you even bother), don’t install random apps from shady websites, and for the love of all that is holy, read the permissions before clicking “install.” Is that really too much to ask?

Speaking of idiots, I once had a user call because their mouse wasn’t working. After 20 minutes of troubleshooting, it turns out they were trying to use it on a table. A *table*. They genuinely thought the mouse needed a surface to operate on that wasn’t their desk. This VNC thing? It feels about as sophisticated as that user.
