New project makes Wikipedia data more accessible to AI

Seriously? They’re *still* at this.

Right, so some bleeding-heart academics and tech types decided Wikipedia wasn’t easy enough for their precious AI overlords to scrape. Apparently, the existing APIs weren’t… streamlined enough for their lazy models. So now they’ve launched “Wikidata Access Framework” or WAF (fitting acronym, honestly) to make it even simpler for bots to hoover up all that perfectly good human-written knowledge.

It boils down to this: they’re restructuring the data into a format AI can digest faster. JSON-LD, SPARQL endpoints… blah, blah, technical jargon nobody cares about unless you’re actively trying to build Skynet. They claim it will help with “reasoning” and “knowledge graphs”. Translation? More chatbots confidently spouting bullshit based on misinterpreted facts.

They’ve got Meta Research involved (of course they do), and are patting themselves on the back for ‘open science’. Open science my ass. It’s open access *for machines*. Humans still have to deal with the same website, the same edit wars, and the same increasingly-bad search results. Fantastic.

Honestly, it’s just another step towards replacing actual understanding with glorified pattern matching. Don’t even get me started on the potential for further bias amplification. Just… great. Just fucking *great*.


You know what’s ironic? I once had to debug a script that was trying to parse Wikipedia infoboxes using regex. Regex! The sheer audacity of it. Spent three days wrestling with nested tables and inconsistent formatting. This WAF thing is just admitting defeat on behalf of anyone who thought structured data was a good idea in the first place.
