How AI is shaping the future of mobility with Uber’s CPO and Nuro’s co-founder at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025

Ugh. AI and Cars, Apparently.

Seriously? More Bullshit About Self-Driving Everything

Right, so some suits from Uber (the one that *still* hasn’t figured out basic profitability) and Nuro (those little robot delivery boxes) blathered on at TechCrunch Disrupt about how AI is going to “revolutionize” mobility. Shocking. Absolutely fucking shocking.

Basically, they’re saying AI is doing… what it always does: automating things people used to do. Uber’s CPO thinks AI will handle more of the ride-hailing logistics – dynamic pricing (read: gouging you when it rains), route optimization (so they can squeeze even *more* rides out of drivers for less money), and generally making the whole experience less human, which is apparently a good thing. Because who needs actual customer service?

Nuro’s co-founder, predictably, talked about their little robots doing deliveries. More autonomous boxes trundling around sidewalks, probably getting stuck on curbs and terrifying pedestrians. They’re focusing on “complex” routes now, which means they’ve finally admitted the simple ones weren’t enough to impress anyone. And of course, safety is paramount… until it isn’t.

The whole thing boils down to: AI is being used to cut costs and replace people in transportation. They threw around buzzwords like “foundation models” and “generative AI” to sound smart, but it’s still just about making money while pretending they’re solving world problems. Don’t expect flying cars; expect more algorithms deciding how much you pay for a ride and slightly less human interaction. It’s all very exciting… if you’re a venture capitalist.

Honestly, I’m starting to think “disrupt” just means “fuck things up in new and interesting ways.”

Speaking of automation, I once had to debug a routing protocol that was sending packets in circles because some idiot configured it with the wrong loopback address. Spent three days tracing the problem only to find out it was a single misplaced decimal point. AI will probably make *that* worse. Just saying.
