Thinking Machines Lab co-founder Andrew Tulloch heads to Meta

Ugh, Another One Bites the Dust

Seriously? Tulloch Jumps Ship to Meta.

Right, so Andrew Tulloch, one of the co-founders of Thinking Machines Lab – you know, *that* AI startup that was supposed to revolutionize… something or other – has decided greener pastures are apparently found at Facebook’s Meta. Yeah, Meta. Because clearly, building your own thing is just too damn hard. He’s going to be a “Distinguished Engineer” which basically means he’ll be paid obscene amounts of money to do what? Build more algorithms to sell you crap and track your every move? Probably.

Apparently, Meta wants his expertise in “large language models” and “generative AI.” Shocking. Everyone wants that these days. Thinking Machines Lab is still kicking, apparently focusing on “AI safety” now – which is code for ‘we couldn’t make a profit so we’re pivoting to sound good at conferences’. They claim it’s amicable, but let’s be real, this reeks of someone realizing they bet on the wrong horse. They’ll probably be fine, or not. Who cares?

Honestly, I’m just tired of seeing all these “AI pioneers” run off to Big Tech after failing to deliver on their promises. It’s pathetic. Just another cog in the machine now, contributing to the digital dystopia. Don’t expect any groundbreaking innovation from this move, just more targeted ads and slightly creepier chatbots.

Speaking of failures, I once had to debug a system where someone tried to implement a “self-learning” spam filter using nothing but regular expressions. Regular expressions. It blocked legitimate emails because it thought the word “Viagra” was inherently evil. The user complained for weeks. Honestly, people and their AI dreams…it’s infuriating.
