Meet Varonis Interceptor: AI-Native Email Security

Varonis Interceptor: Another Fucking Email Security Thing

Seriously? *Another* Email Security Solution?

Oh, joy. As if we didn’t have enough bullshit clogging up the email pipes already, Varonis has decided to grace us with “Interceptor,” their AI-powered email security platform. Apparently, it’s supposed to be different because… wait for it… it uses AI *natively*. Like that hasn’t been a marketing buzzword for the last five years.

Basically, they’ve built something that analyzes emails – shocker – looking for phishing, business email compromise (BEC), and malware. It does this by inspecting attachments, URLs, and even the *content* of the damn things before it hits your inbox. They’re bragging about how it doesn’t need a ton of pre-defined rules or threat intel feeds because the AI learns on its own. Yeah, right. I’ll believe that when pigs fly.

It integrates with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, which is standard fare these days. They also have some fancy “incident response” features, meaning it’ll probably generate a bunch of alerts you’ll ignore while your CEO gets fleeced by a Nigerian prince. And naturally, it’s cloud-native because everything has to be cloud-native now, even if it doesn’t need to be.

The whole thing is designed to stop attacks *before* they happen, which is what every single email security vendor claims. They’re touting good detection rates in their testing (surprise, surprise), but let’s be real: attackers are always evolving. This will just become another cat-and-mouse game.

Look, it probably works okay for a while. Until the bad guys figure out how to bypass it. Then you’ll need *another* solution. It’s a never ending cycle of vendor hype and security failures. Don’t get your hopes up.

Anecdote: I once had to clean up a phishing incident where someone clicked on *three* different warnings before finally realizing it was fake. Three! You can’t fix stupid with AI, people. It’s just… infuriating.
