Seriously? Another AI “Solution” to a Human Problem.
Oh, for the love of all that is holy. Some ex-Eightfold founders – because that didn’t work out well enough, apparently – have snagged $35 million to build “Viven.” What’s Viven? It’s an AI digital twin…for your coworkers. Yeah, you read that right. Instead of just *asking* Susan what she did on that project last year when she was actually on the project, you’re supposed to interrogate a goddamn robot version of her.
The pitch is “institutional knowledge” and not losing expertise when people leave or are on PTO. Like, maybe document your processes instead of relying on tribal memory? Just a thought. They’re aiming for large enterprises because, naturally, the biggest companies have the most problems with basic communication. It uses all your company data – emails, chats, documents, meeting notes – to build this…thing. So basically it’s scraping everything and hoping it can mimic someone well enough that you don’t notice it’s a soulless imitation.
They claim it’s not about replacing people (of course they do), but let’s be real, that’s where this is going. More meetings with bots instead of actual humans? Fantastic. Just what we needed. The whole thing reeks of solving a problem that doesn’t exist for anyone who isn’t actively terrible at management.
And they got Sequoia Capital to fund this garbage fire. Unsurprising, really. They’ll throw money at anything with “AI” slapped on it these days.

I once had a sysadmin try to replace the coffee machine with an automated system controlled by a script. It dispensed lukewarm, vaguely brown water and promptly crashed every Tuesday. People started brewing their own in beakers. This Viven thing feels…similar.
