Seriously? *Another* One Bites the Dust.
Oh, for fuck’s sake. Apple, that bastion of overpriced gadgets and closed ecosystems, has lost yet another high-profile AI executive to Meta. This time it’s Sharone Haas, who was apparently in charge of generative AI at Apple after they poached him from… you guessed it, Google. Now he’s gone to work for Zuckerberg’s data-slurping empire.
Apparently, Apple’s “AI strategy” (and I use that term loosely) isn’t exactly inspiring loyalty. The article delicately phrases it as Haas wanting a “broader scope” and “more impact.” What it *really* means is he probably realized Apple was moving at the speed of molasses in January while everyone else is building actual, useful AI shit. They’re still fiddling around with Siri, for crying out loud!
This makes… what? The third significant AI departure this year? It’s a goddamn revolving door over there. Tim Cook can polish iPhones all he wants; it won’t fix the fact that they are getting absolutely *smoked* in the AI race. They’re relying on partnerships and acquisitions instead of building something themselves, which is just pathetic.
Honestly, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple just buys Meta outright to get some competent people. But knowing them, they’ll probably screw that up too. Don’t expect anything good from Cupertino anytime soon. Just more expensive dongles and slightly shinier rectangles.
Speaking of incompetence, I once had a sysadmin try to “optimize” our network by disabling all the logging. Said it was “cluttering up the system.” Cluttering? *CLUTTERING?!* It took me three days and a full packet capture to figure out why everything was falling over. Some people just don’t get it. Apple is that sysadmin, only with billions of dollars.
