Pinterest adds controls to let you limit the amount of ‘AI slop’ in your feed

Pinterest’s Pathetic Attempt at Damage Control

Seriously? Pinterest Now Lets You *Request* Less AI Crap

Oh, joy. Another tech company realizing people hate the garbage they’re shoving down their throats. Apparently, Pinterest has finally noticed that nobody asked for AI-generated “lifestyle” images polluting their feeds. So, now – and I use this term loosely – they’re giving users “controls.” Controls! Like we needed a permission slip to avoid digital vomit.

What does this mean? You can now tell Pinterest you want *less* of the AI-generated stuff. Not block it entirely, mind you. Just… politely ask for fewer hallucinations about perfect kitchens and artisanal whatever. They’re calling these options “Less Idea Pins” and “Less Lifestyle Content.” Because apparently, ‘AI Slop Reduction’ was too honest.

And of course, this is rolling out slowly to a “small percentage” of users. Because why fix the problem for everyone when you can drag it out and pretend you’re making progress? They claim they’re using your feedback (yeah right) to improve things. It’s all about “balance,” apparently. Balance between what *you* want and what their algorithms think you should want.

Honestly, the whole thing reeks of desperation. They flooded the platform with cheap AI content to boost engagement metrics, it backfired spectacularly, and now they’re offering a band-aid solution that probably won’t do much. Don’t hold your breath waiting for actual quality control. Just expect slightly less aggressively awful suggestions.

Look, I once had to debug a system where someone thought it was a good idea to automatically generate error messages based on user input. The results were… creative. Let’s just say the phrase “Your hamster is experiencing existential dread” appeared more than once. This Pinterest thing feels like that, but scaled up and aimed at millions of unsuspecting people. It’s infuriating.
