The FTC Is Playing Hide and Seek with Its Own Damn Blog

Well, well, well, what the ever-loving fuck do we have here? The Federal Trade Commission, in all its bureaucratic brilliance, has apparently decided to start memory-holing its own damn blog posts about AI—ones that just happened to carry the name of FTC overlord Lina Khan. Yeah, those cute little posts about how the FTC was watching Big Tech’s AI bullshittery like a hawk? Poof. Gone. Vanished into the digital ether like a politician’s promise.

Apparently, Wired poked around and noticed the posts had been scrubbed faster than HR wipes an incident report. The FTC, in its infinite PR wisdom, says this is all about “updating” and “archiving” and other weasel words officials use when they don’t want to say, “Yeah, we nuked that shit because it’s inconvenient.” Real smooth.

Meanwhile, Lina Khan—the regulator who’s been making Silicon Valley sweat harder than a GPU at 110°C—hasn’t said much, which is probably for the best. Every time the agency tries to “communicate” about AI, some poor sod on the legal team probably gets heartburn. Gotta love an organization that’s trying to police AI while doing a damn fine impression of a cover-up artist in the process.

So, to summarize this circus: the FTC posted AI think pieces, realized it might not look too good to have those floating around now, and decided to yank them offline. A shining example of “transparency,” government-style—where transparency means showing everything, then hurling it into a black hole of plausible deniability.

Reminds me of the time a middle manager asked me to “update security logs” after accidentally exposing passwords on a public share. Let’s just say the logs were updated — to “404 NOT FOUND,” right after I renamed his laptop to “Fuckup-Master-9000.”
