David Sacks Throws $42 Million at a GovTech Startup Because Apparently the Government Still Can’t Buy a Decent Software System
Right, so apparently David bloody Sacks and his Craft Ventures lot just hurled a casual $42 million at this thing called Starbridge — some shiny new “GovTech” startup that wants to “modernize government software.” Because, you know, the words “government” and “modernize” have always gone together so well. They’re basically trying to build a fancy-ass cloud platform to help agencies stop running on tech older than your dad’s flip phone. Supposedly it’s about “streamlining procurement” and “bridging data silos.” Yeah, sure, and I suppose unicorns also handle product QA now.
So Starbridge is basically saying, “Hey, your tax dollars are being burned on systems that still run COBOL — let’s fix that with a bucketload of venture capital.” Craft bought into this, probably because they saw the word “AI” somewhere in the pitch deck and started drooling like Pavlov’s dog. It’s a match made in bureaucratic heaven — overfunded suits meeting overconfident founders in a flaming pile of buzzwords.
Anyway, they raised the mountain of cash, and now they’re promising to drag the government kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Good luck with that, sunshine. I’ve seen sysadmins with less patience than a hungover badger lose their minds over printer drivers — and you lot want to fix federal infrastructure? Hah!

Reminds me of that time I tried to automate ticketing in my old office — management said “We’ll go digital!” and promptly printed 500 copies of the config guide. Some people you just can’t save.
