Closing the Bloody AI Execution Gap — A CISO’s Ode to Pain
Right, so apparently everyone’s losing their collective minds because they’ve shoved AI into their cybersecurity stack and—surprise, surprise—it’s not bloody working like magic. According to this cheery little piece of corporate optimism, CISOs everywhere are discovering that “using AI” and “doing AI properly” are two very different breeds of nightmare. No kidding, Sherlock.
The article drones on about how there’s this “AI execution gap,” which basically means a ton of companies are tossing AI buzzwords around like confetti, but no one has an actual bloody plan. You’ve got execs who think ChatGPT’s going to stop ransomware and engineers staring at dashboards wondering why the “AI magic” hasn’t kicked in yet. Hint: because you need strategy, governance, proper data hygiene, and people who know what the fuck they’re doing — not some half-baked proof of concept running on last year’s budget and hope.
Then, the author kindly rattles off a “framework” so CISOs can stop face-planting into their own machine learning projects: align AI with business goals, bake it into risk management, don’t ignore ethics or compliance, and for the love of all that’s holy, actually measure the damn results. Revolutionary stuff, right? Next they’ll tell us “turning it off and on again” fixes things.
And apparently, if you do all this properly, you’ll unleash a future where AI makes your cyber defenses smarter, faster, and more terrifyingly competent. Until then, most of you are just lighting piles of money on fire while the adversaries laugh their silicon asses off.

Reminds me of the time I watched a CISO try to “implement AI” by giving their SOC team an Excel spreadsheet and a chat window. Five outages, two resignations, and one meltdown later, they finally called for help. Moral of the story: if you think AI will save you without effort, you deserve the cyber-pocalypse heading your way.
