SoftBank, OpenAI launch new joint venture in Japan as AI deals grow ever more circular

SoftBank and OpenAI’s New “Joint Venture” — Because Apparently We Needed Another One

Right, so SoftBank and OpenAI decided to join forces in Japan — because obviously, what the world desperately needed right now was *another* goddamn AI “strategic venture” between two tech behemoths who already own half the digital planet. The plan? They’re launching some shiny new company to vomit out “localized AI solutions” for the Japanese market — translation: rebrand existing crap, slap some kanji on it, and sell it back to everyone with a grin that says, “Yes, we’re totally innovative.”

SoftBank, rolling in cash and hubris, is supposed to throw in the money and infrastructure, while OpenAI brings its shiny ChatGPT brainchild and a knack for turning “research collaboration” into another bloody subscription model disguised as a miracle of progress. The whole circus is another round of corporate inbreeding — deals funding other deals that are funded by other funds that were created from yet another bloody deal. It’s capitalism playing three-dimensional Twister while pretending it’s saving humanity.

Meanwhile, they’re all patting each other on the back, releasing carefully worded statements about “unlocking Japan’s AI potential” and “ethical deployment” — because apparently, nothing says ethical like a trillion-dollar AI loop run by people whose moral compass is powered by shareholder dividends. So yeah, expect another tsunami of buzzwords, PowerPoint decks, and executives pretending they understand what the hell “circular AI economics” even means. Spoiler alert: it’s just bullshit with a half-decent marketing budget.

Anyway, if you want the full corporate love story, go read it yourself, you masochist:

Reminds me of when I once merged two networks together because some manager heard the word “synergy” in a meeting. Both networks died, the manager cried, and I took the rest of the week off. Moral of the story: never let idiots near technology — or money.
