Meta names Shengjia Zhao as chief scientist of AI superintelligence unit

Ugh, Meta’s At It Again

Seriously? Another AI Unit.

Right, so Zuckerberg’s decided he needs an “AI Superintelligence” unit. Because apparently slapping ‘AI’ on everything isn’t enough anymore. Now it has to be *super* intelligent. As if. They’ve pulled some poor sod named Shengjia Zhao – previously at Microsoft Research – out of whatever relative peace she had and made her Chief Scientist for this… endeavor.

Apparently, she’s got a PhD in computer science from Stanford (big whoop) and has published a bunch of papers on large language models. Which means she’ll be busy trying to make Facebook even better at selling you crap you don’t need with slightly more convincing chatbot responses. They’re promising “long-term research” which translates to “we have no actual idea what we’re doing but want to look futuristic.”

The whole thing is being led by Yoav Shoham, who they conveniently gloss over as just some guy from AI Fund. Like that explains anything. They’re throwing money at this like it solves problems – spoiler alert: it doesn’t. Expect more hype, more empty promises, and probably a lot of ethically questionable data scraping. Honestly, I’m bracing for the inevitable Skynet-level disaster, but knowing Meta, it’ll just be another privacy violation disguised as innovation.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for actual superintelligence. Just expect more targeted ads.

Look, I once had to debug a routing protocol issue caused by a misconfigured Cisco router. A *router*. People think they need fancy AI and neural networks when the problem was literally a typo in a configuration file. That’s about the level of “superintelligence” we’re dealing with here. Don’t get your hopes up.
