The New York Times is suing Perplexity for copyright infringement

The New York Times Throws a Legal Tantrum at Perplexity — Because Why the Hell Not

So, it looks like the oh-so-esteemed New York freaking Times has decided to throw its weight around again, this time pointing its perfectly manicured legal finger at Perplexity, an AI startup that’s apparently been munching on its precious articles. Yep, the Times is suing those poor sods for copyright infringement, claiming Perplexity’s AI joyfully gobbled up paywalled content like it was an all-you-can-eat buffet of journalistic righteousness.

According to the legal chest-thumping, Perplexity’s bots allegedly scraped, copied, and regurgitated NYT’s content — without so much as a classy citation or polite “thank you.” The Times, being the corporate bigshot it always is, says it’s defending the holy grail of “journalistic integrity.” Right. More like defending their goddamn paywall against another tech punk trying to modernize the news while the print dinosaurs keep clutching their pearls about “intellectual property.”

Perplexity, for its part, is probably sitting in a smoky back room somewhere muttering “fair use” like it’s a magical spell that makes lawsuits disappear. Spoiler: it bloody isn’t. The Times wants damages, injunctions, a public flogging, and probably the AI’s hard drives turned into coasters for their newsroom cocktail bar.

So yeah, it’s another day in tech-land where innovation pisses on traditional media’s shoes, and traditional media screams like someone just deleted their subscription base. Pass the popcorn — this copyright slap-fight’s gonna be entertaining as hell.

Reminds me of the time a manager yelled at me for “improper data usage.” I copied a file to fix their server, and they screamed about “protocol violation.” So I deleted the bloody server instead — problem fucking solved.
