Microsoft Teams to warn of suspicious traffic with external domains

Microsoft Teams Gets a “Don’t-Be-an-Idiot” Alert System

Well, Microsoft’s finally decided to give Teams users a fighting chance against their own bloody stupidity. Apparently, the brainiacs at Redmond figured out that people keep clicking shifty links like moths to a flame, so now Teams will start warning you when you’re chatting with some sketchy external domain that looks about as trustworthy as a phishing scam with Comic Sans in the header.

This so-called “suspicious traffic alert” will pop up in your activity feed and yell “Oi, something smells phishy here!” – or at least the corporate-friendly equivalent. The system’s designed to spot when external Teams domains start behaving like dodgy bastards — you know, sending weird crap or trying to harvest your precious corporate secrets. IT admins get to be the fun police, setting policies so users don’t forklift malware into the network.

Of course, it’ll take Microsoft an entire “phased rollout” to get this working — because God forbid they release a functional feature in one go. Expect it sometime between “soon” and “when hell freezes over”. And even then, people will probably ignore the bloody warnings anyway, because who doesn’t love clicking “Allow” on obvious scams?

Anyway, clap your hands for progress, folks. Teams will now not only crash randomly and eat memory like a starving hippo but also tell you that you’re about to get scammed. Thanks, Microsoft. A little late to the damn party, but sure, we’ll give you a participation ribbon.

Reminds me of the time I told a user that the flashing red malware warning was “just a fancy screensaver.” They rebooted and called me a genius when I fixed it by unplugging the network cable. Ah, users — the gift that keeps on giving.
