AMD’s Shiny New AI PC Toys: Because Apparently We Didn’t Have Enough Buzzwords Already
So AMD decided to waltz into CES like a caffeinated show pony and announce a bunch of new processors that supposedly make your PC “smarter” because sticking ‘AI’ in front of everything is what passes for innovation these days. These new chips, the Ryzen 9000-something-or-other, come with built-in AI voodoo that promises to make your games run smoother, your spreadsheets faster, and your cat videos more “intelligent.” Yeah, sure, because *that’s* what I needed — a processor that judges how stupid I look binge-watching fail compilations at 2am.
They’re bragging about this “XDNA 2” neural engine nonsense that’s supposed to do all sorts of magical crap like make gaming more immersive and productivity “enhanced.” Translation: it’s the same damn silicon, but now it can handle your AI-assisted coloring app without the fan sounding like a jet engine. Oh, and let’s not forget, AMD’s doing this to one-up Intel’s latest “AI PC” crusade. Because God forbid either of them focuses on making hardware that *doesn’t* melt under load — nope, we’re going full Skynet because marketing needs a new toy to wave around.
They’re even saying that the chips will make Windows run “smarter.” Yeah, right. No amount of AI, fairy dust, or goat sacrifice is going to make Windows stop rebooting for updates at the worst possible time. But sure, AMD, pump those benchmarks and tell us how the future of computing is here. Spoiler: it’s not. It’s just your CPU pretending to be clever while it quietly fries your wallet and motherboard.
Still, I’ll admit — the tech’s impressive, even if the marketing is thicker than the smell of burnt thermal paste in the server room. The bastards managed to stuff more AI crap into a consumer chip than I’ve seen in most data centers. So, kudos, AMD. You’ve successfully convinced the masses that their Excel macros now need neural acceleration. Bravo, you magnificent silicon-selling bastards.

Reminds me of the time someone asked me to upgrade their PC “for AI.” I just installed a bigger fan, told them it made the machine think faster, and billed them triple. They never noticed the difference.
