California bans data broker reselling health data of millions

California Finally Gets Off Its Ass and Smacks Data Vampires Around

Well, holy shit, California actually did something useful for once. Lawmakers passed a new bill that basically tells those sleazy data brokers—yeah, the parasites who make a living hawking your health data like it’s fresh meat at a market stall—to knock it the hell off. The new law bans these privacy-void gremlins from collecting and selling people’s *reproductive* and *health-related* data. Why? Because apparently, some morally bankrupt twats were making cash off data about where people go for medical help, including abortion clinics. Classy, right?

So now, under this shiny new law (thank the digital gods), your “private” information—stuff like fertility tracking, period app data, or GPS location near clinics—can’t be sold to whoever’s waving the fattest wad of cash. The state’s Attorney General will even get the power to legally dropkick these brokers if they step out of line. Finally, a bit of regulation that doesn’t just sit around collecting dust.

Sadly, you know it won’t stop all the crap. The data vultures still have loopholes, obscure sources, and zero shame. But at least this is a middle finger in their direction. Consider it the digital equivalent of telling the bastards, “Not today, you invasive pieces of ****.” About bloody time the government did something that doesn’t screw everyone over for a change.

Reminds me of the time some clueless manager asked me why his phone kept getting spammed after he “just accepted all cookies” on fifty dodgy shopping sites. I told him his data was already more exposed than a Netflix password in a student dorm. He didn’t laugh. I did. Loudly.
