Waabi’s $1B Robotaxi Rager with Uber – Because Apparently the World Needed More Self-Driving Crap
Right, so Waabi – that AI self-driving upstart that’s apparently going to “revolutionize transportation” – just bagged one. bloody. billion. dollars. in funding. Yeah, that’s billion with a “B”. Because obviously we didn’t learn anything from the last several AI companies burning through investor cash like it’s cheap lighter fluid. Now they’re hitching themselves to Uber, because who doesn’t love a partnership between the makers of eternal traffic misery and a fleet of soulless robot cars? A match made in algorithmic hell.
So here’s the pitch: Waabi’s fancy “AI-first” simulator supposedly lets them train self-driving cars in virtual worlds before they infest real roads and scare the crap out of everyone. It’s all about “scalable autonomy” — tech-bro speak for “we’re not actually there yet, but please keep the money flowing.” Uber’s in on it because they still haven’t given up on burning VC cash to automate away drivers (and people’s patience).
Anyway, between this $1B round and their existing funding, Waabi’s planning to unleash their “next-gen robotaxis” in a bunch of cities. Because what could possibly go wrong when you unleash beta-stage murder machines into rush hour? Investors are naturally drooling over this because shiny AI bullshit is still the easiest way to print headlines and valuation fluff.
So to recap: Waabi gets rich, Uber gets a new gimmick, and the rest of us get to dodge self-driving boxes with more brainpower than a toaster but less common sense than one. Bloody marvellous.

Anecdote time: Reminds me of the time a “smart” coffee machine at the office tried to update itself mid-brew and spilled hot espresso all over my keyboard. The bloody thing was probably running the same “AI-first” logic these robotaxis are using. Trust me, the future’s automated, alright — automated to screw us all equally.
