Romanian oil pipeline operator Conpet discloses cyberattack

Romanian Oil Company Gets Digitally Mugged by Qilin Ransomware – Because of Course It Bloody Did

So apparently, Conpet – the folks in charge of slinging around oil across Romania – just got their digital knickers yanked down by the charming bastards behind the Qilin ransomware. Yeah, those cyber-dickheads found a way into the company’s systems and decided to lock things up tighter than a miser’s wallet. Conpet had to publicly admit they’d been screwed, because nothing says “we’re totally on top of security” like being forced offline by some cyber goons with delusions of grandeur.

According to the report, the attack primarily hit their IT systems but not their operational networks – which means the oil kept flowing (hooray for small bloody miracles). Still, their internal systems took a kicking, and Qilin – those ransomware muppets who love chaos almost as much as money – have now added Conpet to their little dark web brag wall. Apparently, they’ve leaked “stolen documents” to prove they did the deed, just to really twist the knife.

Conpet, unsurprisingly, is now pretending everything’s peachy, saying operations are fine, risks are low, and please don’t panic. Which is the corporate equivalent of saying, “Yes, the house is on fire, but only a little bit.”

Qilin’s been busy lately, whacking everything from healthcare systems to logistics like some sort of deranged cyber-hammer. And apparently, no one’s yet figured out how to stop these ransomware pricks short of pulling the plug on the internet entirely. But sure, keep those outdated firewalls and unpatched servers humming away – what could possibly go wrong?

Honestly, it’s the same goddamn story every week: some company forgets cybersecurity isn’t optional, gets royally fucked, and then acts shocked. Meanwhile, the attackers pop champagne on some darknet forum, and the rest of us watch with popcorn in one hand and despair in the other.

Reminds me of the time a manager once demanded I “urgently restore” a server which was literally on fire. I told him I’d get right on it if he could hand me a fireproof keyboard and an extinguisher for my patience. He didn’t find it funny. I did.
