Microsoft: Exchange Online flags legitimate emails as phishing

Microsoft Exchange Online Throws a Tantrum and Labels Legit Emails as Phishing

Oh for fuck’s sake, Microsoft’s done it again. Exchange Online has apparently decided that doing its goddamn job properly was too much effort this week. So instead of just filtering out actual phishing scams, the bloody thing’s now flagging perfectly legit emails as phishing attempts. Yep — the system that’s supposed to protect users from dodgy crap is now accusing actual business correspondence of being evil, while probably letting the real malicious junk waltz right in dressed as your grandma’s newsletter.

According to reports, admins across the globe woke up to find their inboxes on fire because idiots at Redmond pushed some change that broke the filtering logic. Microsoft, being Microsoft, called it an “issue” (oh you don’t say?) and said users might see disruptions in email delivery, messages quarantined, or labeled incorrectly. In plain bastard speak: everything’s fucked and the magical cloud fairies have no idea when they’ll unfuck it.

They’re working on a fix, apparently rolling it out slower than my grandma’s Windows 98 updates. Meanwhile, admins are pulling their hair out because entire organizations can’t tell what’s a real message and what’s Exchange losing its digital marbles again. The official recommendation from Microsoft? “Just hang tight.” Yeah, right, because telling a pissed-off IT team to ‘hang tight’ always goes well.

Honestly, it’s starting to look like Microsoft Exchange’s new unofficial slogan should be — ‘We don’t always break email, but when we do, it’s Midweek Maintenance Madness!’

Reminds me of that time I pushed an email filter update at 4:55 PM on a Friday and locked out the CEO’s mailbox. He called me ‘irresponsible’; I called it ‘fucking poetic justice.’
