Oh, *Great*. More Data Centers.
Right, so OpenAI – those geniuses who think they’ve solved everything with slightly-less-terrible chatbots – are building a data center in Norway. Their first one in Europe, naturally. Because apparently, sucking up all the power in Iceland wasn’t enough of an environmental disaster waiting to happen. They’re claiming it’s about “sustainable” energy and whatnot, but let’s be real: it’s about avoiding regulations and cheap hydroelectricity.
They’ve sunk a hefty $109 million into this thing, promising 200 jobs (which will probably involve babysitting the cooling systems and praying the whole place doesn’t melt down). It’s going to be built in Stord, Norway, because… reasons. They’re also throwing money at local infrastructure upgrades – surprise, surprise – because their power needs are gonna be *insane*. And of course, they’re talking about more data centers to come. Fantastic.
The whole thing is scheduled for 2028. Plenty of time for things to go horribly wrong before then. They’re also trying to spin this as a good thing for the local economy and research, but honestly? It’s just another massive power hog disguised as progress. Don’t believe the hype.
Seriously. Norway. *Norway*. What could possibly go wrong?

And another thing…
Reminds me of the time some bright spark decided to build a server room in a converted chicken coop. “Good ventilation!” they said. Turns out, good ventilation also means good access for rodents who *love* chewing on ethernet cables. Spent three days tracing a network outage back to a family of mice and a very angry farmer. These people… honestly.
