Malicious 7-Zip Clone Spreading Crapware – Because the Internet Can’t Have Nice Things
Well, here we go again. Some genius cyber-scumbags set up a fake 7-Zip website to dish out malware instead of the real goddamn compression tool. Because apparently, the world didn’t already have enough ways to screw itself over. This counterfeit site looks convincing enough to trick the average tech-illiterate chimp into downloading a booby-trapped “installer” that’s just dying to turn your computer into a meat puppet in someone’s botnet circus.
The so-called installer comes loaded with a sneaky proxy tool that sits in the background, hijacking your bandwidth and privacy faster than your boss takes credit for your work. Once it’s installed, congratulations — you’re now a proud member of the global network of zombified machines doing shady crap for crooks, all while you wonder why your Wi-Fi sucks harder than dial-up in the ’90s.
The bad guys even went the extra mile and used a domain name that looks frighteningly close to the legit 7-Zip site. You blink once and *bam*, you’re toast. And no, your antivirus probably won’t save your dumb ass if you’re running a decade-old version on autopilot. Should’ve spent the extra two clicks verifying the source instead of rushing to double-click the digital equivalent of a landmine.
Moral of the goddamn story? Stop downloading software from random corners of the internet. Type the official site yourself, check the digital signatures, or just let someone smarter than you handle it — preferably someone who doesn’t also fall for fake “You need this codec to play the video” popups.

Reminds me of the time some idiot in accounting installed a “free screensaver” that turned the entire office network into a spam relay. Took me two days to unfuck that disaster, and three bottles of whiskey to forget it. People never learn. Don’t be that idiot.
