World Labs lands $1B, with $200M from Autodesk, to bring world models into 3D workflows

World Labs Lands $200M From Autodesk And I Already Want To Throw My Fucking Workstation Out The Window

So some bunch of muppets called “World Labs” just got $200 MILLION from Autodesk… because apparently burning money is now a fucking FEATURE in 3D design software. They’ve raised a BILLION total, which means there’s a LOT of stupid investors out there who’ve never had to actually SUPPORT this shit.

These wankers are building something called “world models” – which is marketing bollocks for “AI that will supposedly make 3D workflows easier but will actually create twenty new ways for lusers to fuck up their projects and blame IT”. Autodesk’s bright idea is to shove this into Revit, Maya, and all their other bloatware so architects and designers can generate entire virtual worlds by typing “make me a pretty building” into a fucking text box.

The CEO – some kid who probably still needs the PFY to reset his password – says this will “transform how people create 3D content”. Yeah, transform it from “occasionally works” to “constantly generates 500GB of worthless geometry that crashes the render farm and makes me get paged at 3 AM because some art director’s ‘vision’ broke the laws of physics AND our storage quotas”.

And of course, it’s all “AI-powered” which means it’s basically a fancy probability machine that’s going to hallucinate staircases to nowhere and walls with negative thickness, and I’ll be the bastard who has to explain to the CFO why we need to buy another petabyte of storage to hold all this generated bullshit. The same CFO who questions my request for a new fucking coffee mug.

The deal makes Autodesk their “largest strategic investor” – translation: they’re going to ram this down everyone’s throat in the next subscription update whether we want it or not, and triple the license fees because “AI magic”. My budget’s already stretched thinner than the PFY’s patience when I ask him to do actual work.

Just last week some muppet designer downloaded the beta and tried to “world model” our entire office building. The system generated a beautiful 3D space… where every toilet flushed into the main server room and the fire exits led to Narnia. Took me three days to clean up the files and another week to convince the facilities manager I hadn’t actually installed a portal to another dimension in the basement. The designer? He got a fucking promotion.
