CISA & FEMA Announce $100M+ in Community Cybersecurity Grants

Seriously?

Oh, Joy. Another Fucking Grant Program.

Right, so CISA and FEMA – yeah, those guys – are throwing a measly $100 million at local communities for cybersecurity. A hundred *million*. Like that’s going to fix anything when ransomware gangs are demanding eight-figure payouts on the regular? It’s like using a thimble to bail out the Titanic.

Apparently, this money is supposed to go towards things like planning and training, which is great. Fantastic. More meetings and PowerPoints. What we *really* need is actual people with skills, not another “cybersecurity awareness” course that teaches everyone to change their passwords to ‘P@$$wOrd123’.

They’re focusing on stuff like flood mapping (seriously?) and emergency communications. Fine. But let’s be real: most of these places can barely keep their websites running, let alone defend against a sophisticated attack. Expect a lot of wasted money and zero actual improvement in security posture.

The grants are split into two categories – one for planning (because apparently nobody knows how to plan) and another for equipment. I’m betting 90% of the “equipment” will be useless, overpriced garbage that some vendor convinced them they needed. Don’t even get me started on the paperwork involved. It’ll take longer to apply than it will for a hacker to compromise their systems.

Honestly? This is just political theater. Makes them *look* like they’re doing something, while the actual problem continues to spiral out of control. Don’t hold your breath waiting for miracles.

Related Anecdote: I once had a user submit a ticket because their computer was “broken.” Turns out they unplugged it to dust and were surprised it didn’t still work. This grant program feels about as effective as explaining networking to that guy.
