Android gets patches for Qualcomm flaws exploited in attacks

Android’s a Mess, As Usual

Seriously? Qualcomm Flaws *Again*?!

Oh joy. More security holes in Android. Apparently, some vulnerabilities in Qualcomm chipsets – the stuff powering most of your godforsaken phones – are being actively exploited. Like, right now exploited. We’re talking about flaws in their modem, camera drivers, and other lovely bits of code that let attackers potentially run code remotely. Fantastic.

Google’s shoved out a security patch for this mess (October Security Bulletin, naturally), but good luck actually *getting* it on your phone before the heat death of the universe. Carriers and manufacturers have to sign off on it first, meaning you’re probably stuck with the crap they give you. Expect delays, broken features, and general incompetence.

The vulnerabilities are pretty serious, ranging from high-severity issues that could let someone take control of your device to medium ones that can still cause a headache. The article lists a bunch of CVEs if you’re the type who likes reading alphabet soup. Honestly, it’s just more proof Android is fundamentally insecure and relies on Qualcomm not screwing up constantly.

So yeah, update when (and *if*) you can. But don’t hold your breath. And maybe consider a dumbphone. Seriously.

Speaking of Qualcomm, I once had to debug a system where their chipset was randomly rebooting because it didn’t like the color blue. Blue, for crying out loud! The engineer on the other end tried telling me it was a “feature.” A feature. I swear, sometimes I think these companies are actively trying to make my life worse.
