Seriously? $33 Million. From *Taxpayers*.
Oh, joy. Another script kiddie thought they were clever. This Romanian numbskull, Mihai Alexandru Istrate, apparently decided pilfering $33 million from the US Treasury was a good life choice. Like, what even? He exploited vulnerabilities in tax refund processing – because *obviously* security is optional these days.
He used some bullshit “synthetic identity fraud” scheme (fancy way of saying he made up fake people) to file fraudulent returns and get cash back. Took them a while, but the Feds finally hauled his sorry ass from Romania after an extradition fight. He’s now facing charges that could land him in a US prison for a *long* time. Good riddance.
The whole thing is just… pathetic. $33 million isn’t even enough to buy a decent island these days, let alone retire on. What a waste of everyone’s time. And mine, because I had to *read* about this imbecile.
Honestly, if you’re going to steal millions, at least have the decency to be sophisticated about it. This was just… sloppy.

Speaking of idiots and stolen money, I once had a user try to convince me their cat typed in their password. A *cat*. They were serious. I swear, humanity is doomed.
