Alright, listen up. It looks like some Trump-era officials (or their lingering ideological zombies) are apparently nudging big-ass banks to kick the tires on Anthropic’s shiny new AI thingamajig, the Mythos model. Because obviously what the financial system needs right now is another black-box algorithm making “trust me bro” decisions with other people’s money. What could possibly go wrong? Oh right. Everything.
According to TechCrunch, the whisper campaign goes something like this: regulators and politically connected suits are encouraging banks to “experiment” with Mythos. Experiment. With. Banks. That’s like telling a drunk chimp with a flamethrower to “just try it out.” The idea seems to be that Mythos is safer, more aligned, more compliant, and less likely to go full Skynet on your mortgage. Allegedly.
Anthropic, of course, is playing the responsible-adult-in-the-room card, pitching Mythos as compliance-friendly and risk-aware, which makes bankers’ eyes light up like a slot machine hitting triple sevens. Regulators get to look “pro-innovation,” banks get to say “AI-first” in earnings calls, and everyone pretends this won’t end in a flaming shitshow when the model screws up a credit decision or flags Grandma as a financial terrorist.
The real subtext? Politics and AI are spooning again. If banks start testing Mythos with a wink and a nod from friendly officials, that sends a big fat signal about which AI companies are “safe,” “approved,” or at least not currently on the government’s shit list.
