Seriously? Bouygues Telecom Got Hacked. Again.
Oh, joy. More incompetence. Bouygues Telecom, a French telecom provider, *finally* admitted to a data breach affecting a staggering 64 MILLION customers. Sixty-four million! You’d think they’d learn after the last one, but apparently not.
What was stolen? Names, dates of birth, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers… basically everything you need for identity theft and spamming people into oblivion. They claim no bank details or passwords were nicked – *yet*. Give it time, I’m sure that’ll change.
They detected the breach on January 26th but didn’t bother telling anyone until now. Fantastic PR move, assholes. The attack involved a phishing campaign targeting employees. Phishing! Seriously? In this day and age?! It’s like leaving your front door open with a sign saying “Free Data Inside”.
They are notifying affected customers (eventually) and advising them to be vigilant against scams. Like that’ll actually help when their data is already floating around the dark web. They’re also beefing up security, which means they’ll probably just throw more money at useless software.
Honestly, I expect nothing less from these clowns. It’s a goddamn mess and you, the customer, are paying for their stupidity.

Speaking of phishing, I once had a sysadmin who fell for an email claiming he’d won a free Caribbean cruise. A *sysadmin*. He then proceeded to spend three days trying to figure out how to get his cat on the boat. The level of professional failure was… inspiringly awful. Makes Bouygues look almost competent, and that’s saying something.
