Wave of 150 crypto-draining extensions hits Firefox add-on store

Seriously?! Another Crypto Scam

You Idiots and Your Browser Extensions

Oh, for the love of all that is holy… or unholy, given the subject matter. Apparently, 150 (one hundred and fifty!) malicious Firefox extensions slipped past Mozilla’s “security” checks and are now actively trying to steal your cryptocurrency. Yeah, you read that right. A whole *wave* of them.

These aren’t some sophisticated pieces of kit either; they masquerade as legit ad blockers, productivity tools, or whatever shiny crap people fall for these days. Once installed, they inject code to scan your browser for crypto wallet extensions and then… surprise! They try to siphon off your funds. The attackers are using a clever (read: annoyingly persistent) technique of delaying the malicious activity to avoid immediate detection. Like waiting until enough suckers install them before making their move.

Mozilla *says* they’ve pulled most of ’em, but honestly? The damage is probably already done. They’re blaming a compromised account for the initial upload – convenient, isn’t it? And of course, they’re urging users to review installed extensions and disable anything suspicious. Like you actually *do* that regularly.

Bottom line: Don’t install random browser crap. Seriously. Think before you click. Protect your damn crypto. It’s not rocket science, but apparently it is for a lot of you.

Related Anecdote: I once had to clean up a server farm that was infested with crypto miners installed by a “helpful” IT guy who thought he could make some extra cash. He’d even given them cute names like “System Optimizer.” The sheer audacity… and the amount of wasted electricity. It took me three days, several strong coffees, and a whole lot of cursing to get rid of them. And you know what? He still didn’t understand why he was fired.
