Meta’s AI Grunt Army Gets the Boot (Surprise, Motherfuckers)

So here we fucking go again. Meta—yes, that Meta, the one swimming in cash like Scrooge McZuck—has decided that hundreds of workers training its precious AI can piss off. The folks doing the dirty work are contractors employed by Covalen, a company that pays humans to stare into the AI abyss and label the digital shitshow so Meta’s machines don’t turn into full-on sociopaths.

These workers, many based in Kenya, were told they might be laid off because Meta is “restructuring” and “optimizing.” Translation: some MBA cunt found a spreadsheet that said “cut humans, save money,” and now real people get fucked. The workers describe the whole process as “undignified,” which is polite human-speak for “this is some cold, dehumanizing bullshit.”

Covalen claims it’s just following Meta’s lead. Meta, of course, says it’s committed to “ethical AI” while simultaneously yanking the paycheck from the very people preventing its AI from going full Nazi chatbot. The irony is so thick you could spread it on toast.

These aren’t cushy Silicon Valley jobs with kombucha on tap. This is repetitive, mind-numbing, psychologically rough labor—filtering violence, hate, and godawful content—so Meta’s AI can look smart and friendly on stage. And now that the job’s done (or cheaper elsewhere), the workers are treated like expired hardware.

In short: Meta extracts value, discards humans, and hides behind contractors like a cowardly middle manager who “just enforces policy.” Same old shit, different press release.

Now if you’ll excuse me, this reminds me of the time management laid off the overnight sysadmin because “the servers are stable now.” Two weeks later, the data center caught fire, backups were corrupted, and suddenly I was getting panicked calls at 3 a.m. Funny how humans are only “non-essential” right up until everything goes to shit.
