Oh, Joy. Claude’s Context Window Got Bigger.
Right, so Anthropic, those people who think they’re building something special, have decided their Claude AI can now swallow even more text. Like it wasn’t already a memory hog. They’ve bumped the context window up to 200K tokens – which translates to roughly 150,000 words. Big whoop. It means you can feed it entire fucking novels now instead of just long-ass reports.
They’re patting themselves on the back about how this is “useful” for summarizing legal documents and analyzing research papers. As if anyone actually *wants* an AI to do that without a human double-checking its work? It’ll still hallucinate, guaranteed. And it’s not even free, you gotta pay for the privilege of letting their model pretend to be smart.
Apparently, they’ve also improved how Claude handles really long prompts – less “forgetting” what you told it at the beginning. Shocking. They claim better performance on complex tasks. I’ll believe that when I see it consistently outperform a moderately caffeinated intern. It’s still just pattern matching, people! Don’t get your hopes up.
They’re also bragging about some new tools for developers to work with this bloated context window. More ways to waste time and money, naturally. Honestly, the whole thing smells like a desperate attempt to justify their existence in an increasingly crowded AI landscape.
So yeah, Claude can read more now. Doesn’t mean it understands any better. Don’t expect miracles.
