Oh, For F\*ck’s Sake: Canada’s House of Commons Got Pwned
Right, listen up. Apparently, the Canadian House of Commons – yes, *the government* – got hit with a cyberattack. Shocker. They’re not saying exactly what happened, just that some data was compromised and they’re “investigating.” Investigating! Like they didn’t have enough to do besides… governing?
It seems like it wasn’t a sophisticated nation-state attack (probably), more likely some script kiddie with too much time on their hands. They’ve taken systems offline, which means those MPs are probably having a collective meltdown because they can’t even check their email without assistance. The RCMP is involved now, naturally, because someone has to file paperwork about this monumental screw-up.
They *think* it was related to a vulnerability in a third-party service. Third party! You pay people to secure your shit, Canada! What are you even doing? Honestly, the whole thing is just… pathetic. Expect more details (eventually) and a lot of hand-wringing.
Don’t hold your breath for any real accountability though. They’ll blame someone else, patch the hole with duct tape, and pretend it never happened. It’s always the same damn story.
Related Anecdote: I once had to remotely reboot a server farm for a small town library because their IT guy thought “firewall” was a type of brick. Seriously. This Canadian thing? It’s probably less embarrassing than that.
