Anthropic’s Claude Tag is learning your company, one Slack message at a time

Claude Tag: Because Your Slack Wasn’t Creepy Enough Already

Alright, listen up. The fine folks at Anthropic have unleashed another shiny enterprise toy: Claude Tag. The big idea? You tag Claude inside Slack, and the bastard starts soaking up your company’s internal chatter like a sponge in a septic tank. One message at a time. Because apparently dumping AI into your Slack was the next obvious step in humanity’s slow slide into madness.

According to TechCrunch, Claude Tag is designed to “learn” how your company works by watching conversations in Slack. Processes, tone, tribal knowledge, who hates which meeting — all that delicious corporate bullshit. Over time, Claude supposedly becomes “useful” by understanding context instead of answering like a clueless intern on their first day.

Anthropic swears up and down that this thing respects permissions, doesn’t snoop where it’s not allowed, and won’t go blabbing your secrets to the universe. Sure. I’ve heard that shit before. They promise admin controls, guardrails, and all the usual enterprise-grade buzzwords to keep compliance people from hyperventilating into a paper bag.

But let’s be honest: you’re training an AI by letting it read Slack. Slack — the place where people accidentally confess incompetence, rage-type things they shouldn’t, and ask questions that could get them fired if anyone important noticed. Now the AI notices. Fan-fucking-tastic.

Anthropic’s pitch is that Claude Tag becomes a better teammate over time, answering questions in your company’s own language and reducing the endless “where the hell is that doc?” nonsense. Management hears “productivity.” I hear “yet another system silently judging me.”

Still, this is where enterprise AI is heading: less generic chatbot, more institutional brain parasite. Whether that’s brilliant or terrifying depends on whether you trust vendors with your internal bullshit. Spoiler: I don’t.

Now if you’ll excuse me, this reminds me of the time management logged all IRC chats “for knowledge sharing,” then acted shocked when they discovered everyone thought the CIO was a fuckwit. Tools change. Human stupidity doesn’t.
