New Android Malware Wave Hits Banking via NFC Relay Fraud, Call Hijacking, and Root Exploits

Ugh, Another Android Mess

Seriously? *Another* Android Malware Problem

Right, listen up. Some new banking trojan shit is going around on Android – because of course it is. Apparently, this thing’s a multi-pronged attack. It uses NFC relay fraud (like someone’s stealing your tap-to-pay without you knowing), call hijacking to get those sweet, sweet two-factor authentication codes, and if they can, it tries to root your damn phone. Rooting! Like these script kiddies actually think they’re clever.

It targets a bunch of banks globally – mostly in Europe and Asia, naturally – and spreads through fake apps outside the Play Store. You know, because people *always* download stuff from reputable sources. It’s called “Hydra”, which is fitting, considering it has multiple heads of annoyance.

They’re using a bunch of techniques to avoid detection, too. Obfuscation, dynamic loading… the usual crap. It even tries to steal accessibility services – meaning it can basically control your phone if you let it. Honestly, people need to learn how to read permissions!

The researchers at ThreatFabric found this mess and are warning everyone. But honestly? It’s Android. It’ll probably be patched… eventually… after a million phones get compromised. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Speaking of people being idiots, I once had a user who installed a toolbar just because it promised free cat pictures. Free cat pictures. Then they complained their browser was redirecting them to Nigerian prince scams. Some people deserve whatever they get.
