The Government’s Meddling in Intel – You. Don’t. Say. I Didn’t Warn You.
Right, so the US government, bless their infinite wisdom, is apparently thinking about taking a *stake* in Intel. A STAKE. Like they haven’t fucked up enough industries already? Apparently, this whole CHIPS Act thing isn’t going fast enough for them, and instead of letting market forces… you know… *work*, they want to just outright own part of a semiconductor company. Fantastic.
The reasoning? National security, naturally. Because apparently, relying on Taiwan is bad (fair point), but having the government micromanage chip production is totally different and won’t be a disaster at all. They’re talking about using funds from that aforementioned CHIPS Act – money already allocated, so don’t think they’re suddenly being fiscally responsible. It’s just… redirecting it to become shareholders.
The details are vague as hell, naturally. “Discussions” is the word of the day. But expect a whole lot of bureaucratic bullshit if this goes through. Expect innovation to slow down faster than molasses in January. And expect Intel’s stock price to do… something. Probably not good things. Honestly, it’s just another example of them trying to solve problems they created by overthinking everything.
Don’t even get me started on the potential conflicts of interest. This is going to be a clusterfuck. A glorious, predictable clusterfuck.

Speaking of government interference, I once had to debug a system where the DoD decided they knew better than the engineers about network routing. Let’s just say it involved more duct tape and prayer than actual engineering principles. The whole thing was held together by spite and crossed fingers. And you think *this* is going to be any different? Don’t make me laugh.
