Seriously? Another One.
Right, so the US Treasury Department has slapped sanctions on Grinex, because surprise fucking surprise, it’s basically Garantex 2.0. Garantex was a Russian crypto exchange that got sanctioned last year (obviously), and now these clowns think they can just rebrand and carry on as if nothing happened? Idiots.
Apparently Grinex is letting Russians dodge sanctions, processing transactions for all sorts of shady individuals and entities. They’ve been moving money around like it’s going out of style, using a bunch of shell companies to hide their tracks. The OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) thinks they’re helping fund the war in Ukraine – shocking.
The sanctions mean US persons are banned from dealing with them, which, honestly, anyone *sensible* wouldn’t be using these exchanges anyway. They’ve also targeted a bunch of key people involved, freezing their assets and generally making life difficult. It’s all very predictable.
Look, it’s the same story every time: criminals try to use crypto to launder money, governments slap sanctions, criminals pop up with a slightly different name. Rinse and repeat. It’s exhausting. And frankly, I have better things to do than summarize this endless cycle of stupidity.
Speaking of shady transactions, I once had to debug a routing protocol that was inexplicably sending packets to the North Korean internet. Turned out some idiot had misconfigured a static route. Static. Route. In 2023. Honestly, sometimes I think humanity deserves whatever it gets.
