Oh, For F\*ck’s Sake. Another One.
Right, listen up, you lot. Some “hacktivist” clowns – specifically a group calling themselves Anonymous Sudan (because subtlety is *clearly* their strong suit) – decided it was a brilliant idea to go after critical infrastructure in the UK. Specifically, they targeted Northumbrian Water Group. And guess what? They didn’t actually get into anything important. It was a SCADA system at a *decoy plant*. A freaking decoy.
Apparently, this group is pissed about something or other (doesn’t matter, they always are), and thought disrupting water treatment would be a good way to make a point. They managed to cause some operational issues – like slightly higher chlorine levels – but nothing that actually endangered anyone. Mostly just annoyed the hell out of people who have to *fix* their messes.
The Environment Agency and Northumbrian Water are dealing with it, and honestly, I’m more irritated they even bothered writing an article about this than anything else. It’s a bunch of script kiddies flailing around and getting lucky enough to hit something that wasn’t actually vital. They claim responsibility for other attacks too, but who knows if that’s true? Probably just bragging.
Honestly, the whole thing is pathetic. Go back to your bedrooms, you wastes of bandwidth.
You know, reminds me of the time some idiot tried to DDoS my server farm back in ’98 because I wouldn’t let him leech bandwidth for his Napster collection. Took him five minutes to realize it was a honeypot and another ten to regret his life choices. Some people just *ask* for trouble. And frankly, they deserve it.
