Microsoft: Windows Backup now available for enterprise users

Ugh, Microsoft Backup… For Businesses. Seriously?

Microsoft’s “New” Backup is Here (Because Apparently Existing Solutions Weren’t Shitty Enough)

Right, so Microsoft *finally* decided to roll out Windows Backup – the one that normal people have been using for ages – to enterprise users. Big fucking deal. It’s basically just a cloud-based backup solution tied into OneDrive and SharePoint. They’re touting features like file versioning (like, duh), ransomware detection (because *they* caused half the ransomware problems in the first place!), and the ability to restore entire systems.

It’s all managed through Intune, because of course it is – gotta lock you into their ecosystem even tighter. And naturally, it requires a Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 license. So if you’re not already bleeding money to them monthly, enjoy the upcharge. They are also pushing this as a replacement for third party backup solutions which is just great.

Oh, and it’s “gradually” rolling out. Meaning expect bugs, instability, and general headaches. Because that’s just how Microsoft operates. Expect to spend weeks configuring something that should have been available years ago. Honestly, the whole thing feels like they slapped a new coat of paint on existing tech and called it innovation.

Don’t get your hopes up. It’s still Microsoft.

Related Anecdote: I once had to recover a server from tape backups after a complete system failure. The tapes were labeled “Good Backups – Do Not Touch.” Turns out, they hadn’t been tested in *five years*. Five years! The whole thing was corrupted. I swear, if I could have physically reached through the internet and throttled the sysadmin responsible… Anyway, this new Microsoft backup? Probably just as reliable. Don’t trust it.
