Hard-Coded Keys, Dumb Decisions, and Digital Dumpster Fires
Oh for fuck’s sake, it’s 2025 and apparently developers still think hard-coding keys into software is a bloody good idea. Enter Gladinet, the poor sods behind CentreStack and Triofox — fancy cloud file management platforms that just gifted attackers a goddamn master key. Yes, you read that right. These muppets left hard-coded encryption keys sitting in their bloody software, practically stapled to the front door saying “welcome hackers, the beer’s in the fridge.”
Security researchers at Huntress did a little poking around and found hard-coded AES keys and JWT secrets inside the bloody code — meaning any half-awake attacker could skip authentication, impersonate admins, and then run arbitrary code on systems. You know, normal “oops we handed you the keys to the kingdom” shit. And in case this wasn’t bad enough, there are apparently *active* exploits taking advantage of this already. Because of course there are — it’s 2025, and if it looks exploitable, it’s already owned three times over by breakfast.
Gladinet rushed out patches — version 14.10.2011.48900 or newer — which probably means someone finally sobered up at the dev desk and decided maybe, just maybe, hardcoding master keys wasn’t clever. So now admins everywhere are scrambling to patch before their file shares and servers turn into botnet hors d’oeuvres. Good luck with that, you magnificent bastards.
All in all, another stellar example of humans building insecure tech, slapping a logo on it, and acting surprised when it explodes. Next time maybe don’t hide root passwords in plain sight — just tattoo them on your forehead. Same effort, same result.

Reminds me of the time some dumb intern thought disabling the firewall would “speed things up.” Sure did — the ransomware zipped in faster than a sysadmin’s coffee supply disappears on Monday morning. Some lessons just *never* stick.
