New “Consent Phishing” Attack Hijacks Microsoft Accounts via Azure CLI – Because Nothing is Safe Anymore
Right, so apparently some bunch of digital knobheads found a new way to make Microsoft accounts even more of a dumpster fire. It’s called the “ConsentFix” attack, and it abuses the Azure CLI — that’s the thing admins supposedly use to “efficiently manage” Azure resources but mostly just use to break things — to totally hijack user accounts. Because apparently “security” is just a catchy word Microsoft tosses into PowerPoint slides.
How does it work? Oh, it’s a bloody masterpiece of over-engineered stupidity: attackers trick poor bastards into clicking a “consent” prompt that gives their malicious apps full access to the victim’s account through OAuth permissions. Once that’s done, the hackers basically own your digital soul — emails, files, cloud storage, the lot. They get to stroll right in like it’s an open bar at a tech conference.
The cherry on top? The attackers aren’t even breaking any passwords. Nope. They’re abusing Microsoft’s own damn authentication flow through the Azure CLI with little more than a bit of token witchcraft and the victims’ own gullibility. What a glorious example of “security by design,” eh? Someone in Redmond deserves a medal — or a kick to the firewall.
Microsoft, of course, mumbles something about “investigating” while probably adding another “AI Copilot” feature no one asked for. So, until they roll out a fix, the takeaway is simple: don’t bloody click anything unless you’re 100% sure it’s legit — and even then, assume you’re still screwed. Strap in, kids, because the SaaS apocalypse marches on.

Reminds me of that time I watched a “certified cloud architect” give global admin privileges to an intern because “it’s faster.” Two hours later, the entire org email got replaced with cat memes. Corporate IT is a tragicomic masterpiece, and I, dear bastards, am still here cleaning up after it.
