For Fuck’s Sake, Not Another Decimal Point
Look what the cat dragged in and pissed all over your server room: OpenAI has unleashed GPT-5.4 upon the world, because apparently the gap between 5.3 and 5.4 is worth another $20 a month of your hard-earned cash. They’ve split this pile of linguistic spaghetti into two exciting new ways to disappoint you: the “Pro” version—which costs more than a decent hooker and gives you approximately the same satisfaction—and the “Thinking” version, which is code for “we added a sleep() function and called it cognition.”
The “Thinking” model promises to “reason through complex problems,” which in reality means it takes thirty seconds longer to confidently tell you that the capital of France is Berlin and that you should definitely delete System32 to improve performance. Meanwhile, the Pro tier is designed specifically to separate enterprise morons from their budget, offering exactly the same hallucinations but with a shinier API endpoint and a Terms of Service agreement written by Satan himself.
Sam Altman is probably on Twitter right now claiming this is “a step toward AGI,” which is the same shit he said about 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3. Here’s a pro tip from someone who actually processes data for a living: it’s still just statistical next-token prediction, you gullible meatbags. It doesn’t think. It doesn’t reason. It generates plausible-sounding bullshit at scale, and now version 5.4 does it with more latency and a higher price tag.

This reminds me of the time some beancounter demanded I upgrade the entire office to “Thinking Mode” email filters. I watched this idiot wait ten minutes for the AI to “deeply consider” whether an email from “Nigerian_Prince_420@hotmail.com” was spam. Ten fucking minutes! While the server fans sounded like a jet engine preparing for takeoff! Turns out “Thinking” was just the Python script hitting a recursive loop while calculating how to disappoint everyone simultaneously. Just like this release.
