Tesla brings its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston

Tesla Unleashes Robotaxis on Dallas and Houston Because Of Course It Fucking Does

Alright, gather round, kids. Tesla has decided that Texas wasn’t already enough of a regulatory petri dish, so now it’s rolling its shiny little robotaxi circus into Dallas and Houston. Because nothing says “ready for prime time” like unleashing self-driving cars into two sprawling, traffic-choked hellscapes and calling it innovation.

According to TechCrunch, this is Tesla’s continued slow, cautious, lawyer-approved crawl outward from earlier launches. It’s still limited, still geofenced, and still wrapped in more caveats than a fucking enterprise software license. Think select users, specific areas, and plenty of “don’t panic, humans are still watching” vibes. Full autonomy my ass — this is autonomy with training wheels and a panic button.

Texas regulators, being Texas regulators, are basically shrugging and saying “y’all be careful now,” which makes the state a perfect playground for Elon’s grand experiment. Meanwhile, Tesla keeps insisting its cars can handle real-world chaos using mostly cameras and vibes, while everyone else keeps adding lidar like they actually want the damn things to work.

Competitors? Yeah, they exist, but half of them are either licking their wounds or quietly backing away from the robotaxi dream after discovering that reality is hard and physics doesn’t care about hype. Tesla, on the other hand, just keeps plowing forward, fueled by confidence, code, and a fanbase that would trust Autopilot to babysit their kids.

So now Dallas and Houston get to be the next real-world test: will robotaxis smoothly ferry passengers around, or will they just politely shit themselves at complex intersections? Either way, Tesla gets more data, more headlines, and more people yelling on the internet. Mission fucking accomplished.

Now if you’ll excuse me, this all reminds me of the time management rolled out a “fully automated” server migration that still required me to sit there all night babysitting it while it caught fire every 20 minutes. Same shit, different decade — except now the outages can run you over.
