Google Tries to Save You From Getting Scammed by Robo-Assholes

Alright, gather round, meatbags. Google has decided that Android users are apparently too gullible, distracted, or just plain fucked to notice when an AI-powered scammer is sweet-talking them out of their life savings. So now they’re rolling out new Android protections to spot AI deepfake scam calls while they’re happening. About bloody time.

The idea is simple: scammers are using AI-generated voices to impersonate banks, government drones, or even your so-called “loved ones.” Android now uses on-device AI to listen for scammy bullshit patterns during calls and pop up warnings when the conversation smells like a steaming pile of fraud. No cloud uploads, no data slurping — it all happens locally, because even Google knows people would lose their shit otherwise.

If the system thinks you’re being conned, Android throws up a warning mid-call saying, in polite corporate-speak, “Hey dipshit, this might be a scam.” You can then hang up, block the number, or continue the call if you enjoy living dangerously and hate your money. This stuff plugs into Google’s Phone app and Call Screen features, starting with Pixel devices, because of course the rest of you peasants get it later.

It’s opt-in, it’s privacy-preserving, and it’s Google desperately trying to clean up a mess caused by the same AI arms race everyone’s been drooling over. Fight fire with fire, fight bullshit with more bullshit — at least this time it’s vaguely helpful bullshit.

In short: Android is now your slightly smarter, deeply judgmental friend who whispers “this is a scam, you idiot” before you wire money to a Nigerian AI pretending to be your boss.
