Anthropic Joins Frontier: Because Even AI Knows the Planet’s Fucked

Anthropic — yes, the AI company that keeps yelling about safety and responsibility — just became the first AI startup to join Frontier, the carbon removal coalition. Slow clap. About damn time.
Frontier is that Stripe-led club where tech giants throw piles of money at the problem of yanking carbon dioxide out of the sky and stuffing it somewhere permanent, instead of just slapping “net zero” stickers on their bullshit marketing. Think advance commitments to buy future carbon removal, so actual projects can, you know, exist. Radical concept.
Anthropic signing up means they’re committing cash to long-term carbon removal — not tree-planting PR crap that burns down in five years, but real “lock that CO₂ away for centuries” shit. They’re also the first AI company in the coalition, which is both impressive and mildly embarrassing for the rest of the AI industry that’s busy boiling the planet with GPUs while pretending it’s someone else’s problem.
The move is basically Anthropic admitting, “Yeah, our models eat electricity like a drunk sysadmin at an all-you-can-eat buffet, so maybe we should help unfuck the atmosphere.” Credit where it’s due — they’re at least putting money behind the moral posturing instead of just publishing another sanctimonious blog post.
Frontier, for its part, keeps stacking members who actually commit to paying for carbon removal at scale, trying to drag this tech out of the ‘science fair project’ phase and into something that might actually matter. Will it save the world? Who the hell knows. But it’s better than doing nothing while shouting about “AI for good.”
