Jensen Huang Says Using Chinese Open-Source AI Isn’t the End of the Bloody World

Right, so Jensen Huang, NVIDIA’s leather-jacketed money-printing wizard, is out there defending the use of Chinese open-source AI models, because apparently the grown-ups in the room have noticed that screaming “China bad!” every five bloody minutes isn’t actually a technology strategy.

The basic point is this: Huang says open-source AI models from China are out in the wild, they’re being used, and pretending they don’t exist is stupid as shit. If developers, researchers, and companies can get useful tools from these models, they bloody well will. That’s how technology works. You don’t stop progress by clutching pearls and issuing stern press releases like some incompetent middle manager who thinks Outlook rules count as cybersecurity.

He’s also arguing that open-source AI spreads fast, and once it’s out there, it’s out there. You can’t un-invent the damn thing. Chinese AI models are improving, gaining attention, and becoming part of the global ecosystem whether politicians like it or not. So the real issue isn’t “Can we wish this away?” but “How the fuck do we compete?”

Huang’s broader message is that the US tech industry needs to stay competitive by building better shit, moving faster, and not tying itself into bureaucratic knots while everyone else gets on with the job. Revolutionary concept, I know. Instead of wetting themselves over the existence of Chinese open models, maybe policymakers should focus on innovation, infrastructure, talent, and letting companies actually do useful work.

There’s also the obvious economic angle: NVIDIA sells the picks and shovels in this AI gold rush, and Huang would quite like the gold rush to continue without governments smashing half the tools because they’ve only just discovered geopolitics. He’s not saying there are no risks—because only a complete moron says there are no risks—just that sticking your fingers in your ears and pretending open-source Chinese AI can be ignored is delusional bullshit.

So the article boils down to this: Huang is defending the practical use of Chinese open-source AI models because they’re already here, already useful, and already influencing the market. The answer, in his view, isn’t panic, protectionist flailing, or the usual sanctimonious horseshit. It’s to outbuild, outthink, and outcompete.

In other words: stop whining, start shipping, and maybe try being better instead of louder. A lesson the IT industry, government, and every useless bastard who’s ever opened a “strategy alignment” meeting could stand to learn.

Anecdote time: this reminds me of the time management banned admins from using a perfectly good open-source monitoring tool because it “wasn’t officially approved.” Two weeks later the sanctioned enterprise software shit itself, nobody knew the servers were dying, and suddenly my “unapproved” tool was the only thing that told us which rack was on fire. Funny how principles evaporate when the dashboard goes black and the executives start sweating through their expensive shirts.
