Microsoft’s Temporary “Fix” for Windows 11 Gaming Issues — Because of Course They Broke It
Right, so Microsoft has graciously admitted that Windows 11 24H2 managed to screw up gaming for some poor bastards, with titles freezing, becoming unresponsive, or otherwise turning into expensive digital paperweights. Apparently Ubisoft games got hit especially hard, because when Microsoft ships an update, someone somewhere has to get absolutely shafted.
The issue was bad enough that Microsoft slapped a compatibility hold on affected systems, which is corporate-speak for: “We broke your shit, so we’re stopping more people from installing our broken shit.” Affected devices won’t be offered the 24H2 update through Windows Update until this mess is sorted. Stunning engineering as always.
As for the “temporary fix,” Microsoft says users can install updated game patches released by Ubisoft for some affected titles. In other words, Microsoft breaks gaming, and now everyone gets to play the traditional support game of which bastard needs to patch their mess first? If patches are available for your game, install them. If not, congratulations, you get to wait around like a mug while the grown-ups pretend this is all under control.
Microsoft also advised users not to manually force-install Windows 11 24H2 with the Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool if their device is affected. Which is a nice way of saying: “Please don’t bypass our block and dive headfirst into the flaming pit of crap we already know about.” Fair enough, for once.
So the short version is this: Windows 11 24H2 caused gaming issues, Microsoft blocked the rollout on affected machines, Ubisoft has pushed some game-specific fixes, and everyone else gets the usual buffet of delays, workarounds, and corporate shrugging. Same old shit, different patch Tuesday.
I once watched a sysadmin “fix” a printer outage by putting an OUT OF ORDER sign on it and going to lunch. Frankly, that’s still more honest than calling this sort of nonsense a polished update strategy.
