Windows 11 Insider builds add richer Phone companion and energy tips

Windows 11 Insider Build: More Phone Crap, Energy Nagging, and the Usual Microsoft Shenanigans

Right, here’s the short version, because nobody with a functioning brain wants to wade through Microsoft’s endless stream of shiny fluff without a translator. In the latest Windows 11 Insider builds, Microsoft has bolted on a richer so-called phone companion experience and added more energy-saving recommendations. Because apparently your PC now needs to mother you about both your smartphone and your bloody electricity bill.

The main bit of this update is tighter phone integration in the Start menu. If you’ve got an Android or iPhone linked up through Phone Link, Windows will now shove more of that information right in your face—battery status, messages, calls, recent activity, and other bits of mobile nonsense. Microsoft is clearly desperate to make your PC and your phone behave like one big happy surveillance appliance. Convenient? Sure, sometimes. Also another layer of shit cluttering up the interface? Absolutely.

They’re also pushing energy-saving tips harder. Windows will now suggest settings changes that can reduce power usage and maybe save a bit of money, assuming you haven’t already disabled half the useless visual garbage yourself. Things like adjusting power settings, managing screen behavior, and generally reminding you that your computer consumes electricity—stunning revelation, that. It’s not exactly revolutionary, but I suppose someone in Redmond needed to justify a week of meetings and a PowerPoint deck full of greenwashing bollocks.

There are also the usual Insider build tweaks, fixes, and experimental odds and ends. You know the drill: some bugs get fixed, some new bugs crawl out of the sewer, and everyone pretends this is progress. That’s the joy of preview builds—you get to test unfinished crap so Microsoft can eventually ship slightly less broken crap to everyone else.

So the overall summary? Microsoft is trying to make Windows 11 feel more connected to your phone while also nagging users into being a bit more energy-conscious. If that sounds useful, great. If it sounds like more UI bloat wrapped in eco-marketing bullshit, that’s because it probably is. Still, for people who live in Phone Link and enjoy being told how to run their machines, this update may actually be useful. Miracles do happen, usually by accident.

I remember once watching a junior admin proudly enable every “helpful” feature Microsoft offered, only to spend the next three days wondering why users were screaming about popups, sync issues, and disappearing battery life. He called it productivity. I called it a self-inflicted clusterfuck. Same energy here, frankly.
